🟢 WEEK 1 — Lesson 2
Title: Multimodal AI Creation
🎯 Lesson Objective
By the end of this lesson, students will be able to understand how multimodal AI works and create simple projects using text, images, audio, and other AI-generated media.
1️⃣ What is Multimodal AI?
Multimodal AI means AI that can work with more than just text.
It can understand and generate:
Text
Images
Audio
Video
Documents
Instead of only typing and receiving text, builders combine multiple formats to create richer solutions.
Example:
Text prompt → AI generates image
Image upload → AI explains the image
Text script → AI converts to voice
Voice → AI converts to text
That is multimodal creation.
2️⃣ Text-to-Image Creation
Students learn how to generate images using detailed prompts.
Weak:
“Create a picture of a classroom.”
Stronger:
“Create a realistic image of a modern African classroom with students using laptops and AI tools, natural lighting, and a smart board in the background.”
The more descriptive the prompt, the better the result.
Teach them: Subject + Style + Environment + Details + Mood
Builders design visuals intentionally.
3️⃣ Image-to-Text Understanding
AI can analyze images and describe them.
Students learn to:
Upload an image
Ask AI to explain what is happening
Extract insights
Generate captions
Turn visuals into stories
Example:
Upload a marketplace image and ask: “Describe the economic activities happening in this image and suggest 2 small business ideas inspired by it.”
Now AI becomes an idea generator.
4️⃣ Audio & Voice Tools
AI can:
Convert text to speech
Convert speech to text
Help write scripts
Students learn how to:
Generate a short educational script
Convert it into AI voice
Create a simple audio lesson
This shows how AI supports communication.
5️⃣ Combining Modalities (Thinking Like a Builder)
Builders don’t stop at one tool.
Example mini system:
Write script using AI
Generate image for thumbnail
Convert script to voice
Combine into short video
That is multimodal workflow thinking.
AI is no longer a chatbot.
It becomes a creation engine.
🛠 Practical Exercise
Mini AI Media Project
Students must create:
Option A:
An AI-generated poster + short written explanation
Option B:
A short AI-generated educational script + AI voice narration
Option C:
An image generated from a detailed prompt + caption + summary
They must explain:
What tools they used
How they structured their prompts
What they improved after testing.
📌 Mini Assessment (End of Class)
Students submit:
1 multimodal mini project
1 short explanation of how they improved their prompt
Assessment criteria:
Clarity of prompt
Creativity
Effective use of AI tools
Quality of output.
💡Key Takeaway
AI is not just text.
Builders use multiple formats to create richer solutions.
The future belongs to creators who can combine tools — not just use one.
