🟢 WEEK 1 — Lesson 5

Title: AI Ethics & Responsible Building

🎯 Lesson Objective

By the end of this lesson, students will understand how to use AI responsibly, avoid harm, and build with integrity.

1️⃣ What is AI Ethics?

AI Ethics means using AI in a way that is fair, safe, and responsible.

Just because AI can do something does not mean we should use it wrongly.

Example:

Using AI to help you understand a topic ✅

Using AI to cheat in an exam ❌

Ethics is about doing the right thing even when nobody is watching.

2️⃣ AI Bias (Unfair Results)

Bias means unfairness.

Sometimes AI gives answers that favor one group of people over another.

Why?

Because AI learns from human data.

And human data is not always perfect.

Example:

If an AI is trained mostly on foreign business examples,

It may ignore African market realities.

As builders, we must:

• Question results

• Check different sources

• Think critically

Do not believe everything AI says blindly.

3️⃣ Deepfakes (Fake but Real-Looking Media)

Deepfakes are fake videos, images, or voices made with AI.

They can make someone look like they said something they never said.

This is dangerous.

Example:

A fake video of a leader announcing something false.

As responsible builders:

• Do not create fake harmful content

• Always verify media before sharing

• Educate others about digital manipulation

Technology is powerful. Use it wisely.

4️⃣ Academic Honesty

AI can help you learn.

But it should not replace your thinking.

Wrong use:

Copying AI answers and submitting as your own work.

Right use:

Use AI to understand a topic.

Then write your own explanation.

Remember:

AI is your assistant, not your brain.

5️⃣ Data Privacy Basics

Privacy means protecting personal information.

Do not enter sensitive data into AI tools.

Examples of sensitive data:

• Bank details

• Passwords

• Private company data

• Exam questions not yet written

As a builder:

Respect people’s data.

Protect your own data.

Reflection

Step 1:  Take 3 scenarios:

Scenario A: A student uses AI to write an entire exam essay.

Scenario B: Someone creates a fake video of a celebrity.

Scenario C: A company uploads customer data into an AI tool without permission.

Step 2: Each  answers:

• What is wrong here?

• What is the responsible action?

Step 4: Short personal reflection (5–7 sentences):

“How will I use AI responsibly as a builder?”

📌 Mini Assessment (End of Class)

Students submit:

1️⃣ One example of responsible AI use.

2️⃣ One example of irresponsible AI use.

3️⃣ One sentence on why ethics matters in AI.

AI is powerful.

But power without responsibility is dangerous.

Real AI Builders:

• Think before they build.

• Protect people.

• Use AI to solve problems, not create harm.
